Riley Chaffee and Kyle Belliveau Victorious in Len West Memorial

Posted 2017-08-01 at 23:40

The Legion Speedway once again hosted the O'Reilly Auto Parts Granite State Mini Sprints Friday, July 28th. It marked the fourth appearance of the season for the group and was the annual Len West Memorial Race.

When the starter unfurled the Green Flag in the 500cc Main Event Eric Relation in the #45 jumped to the lead from the outside pole position. Ed Vickery in the #48 settled into the second spot with the #51 of Riley Chaffee and Kyle Pittman in the #60 battling for third. The running order stayed the same until the yellow flew for the stalled #08 of Logan Osmer on the backstretch. When racing resumed Eric Relation maintained the top spot for another lap until spinning coming out of turn four. He collected the #54 of Will Pinkham Jr, ending the night for both of them. This gave the lead to Vickery but a lap later Riley Chaffee powered by to annex the top spot. Vickery was still second and Ken Stridsburg in the #6 was now third. The yellow flew once again with eleven laps complete for the #42 of Ryan Farwell, who coasted to a stop with mechanical issues. On the restart Chaffee maintained the lead with Ed Vickery second. Kyle Pittman in the #60 moved past Stridsburg into third on the restart and then slipped by Vickery for second with one lap to go. At the Checkers it was Riley Chaffee with the win, Kyle Pittman second and Ed Vickery third. Ken Stridsburg and Matt Calley in the #17 completed the top five.

Kyle Belliveau was a man on a mission in the 600cc Main Event. As the green flag flew and the field rumbled into turn one somehow the #14 of Zach Herbert got turned around and also collected in the incident was the #7 of Drew Eldridge, unfortunately this incident ended the night for both competitors. When racing resumed Kyle Belliveau in the #15 rocketed into the lead form his third starting spot before a single lap was complete. The race went non stop the rest of the way with Belliveau maintaining a large lead. Dick Lamotte in the #18 ran second the entire distance with Tony Shaw in the #20 third. As the laps rapidly clicked away the real race was for fourth with Kyle Pittman in the #9 and the #17 of Tyler Jones swapping the spot a few times. When the checkers flew it was an impressive win for Kyle Belliveau. Dick Lamotte was second with Tony Shaw third. Bradley Osgood and Tyler Jones rounded out the top five.

Heat race winners were Eric Relation and Will Pinkham Jr in the 500cc's with Kyle Belliveau winning the 600cc qualifier.

The next event on the calendar for the O'Reilly Auto Parts Granite State Mini Sprints is this Saturday, August 5th at The Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, VT. For more information please log onto www.GraniteStateMiniSprint.com.
